Overview

Grand Circle Corporation offers distinctive international vacations for older Americans.

Challenge

Grand Circle Corporation had an existing suite of automated performance and functional website tests. The QA group wanted to review and upgrade their regression tests to make them more reliable, useful, and easier for non-technical users to maintain.

The Solution

Synergy Codeworks gathered detailed information from the employee responsible for the development, maintenance, and execution of all automated tests. The performance testing was done using HP LoadRunner, and the functional tests were running through HP UFT using a complex set of automated Excel files and various scripting tools on the backend.

Detailed documentation of these procedures was created based on recorded knowledge transfer sessions, wiki information, and in-person meetings.

Synergy Codeworks worked with the GCC QA team to create a plan for improving the automated testing that included refining the existing automated LoadRunner performance tests. The Synergy team worked together with the GCC development group to create critical end-to-end testing to verify data transfers from the AS/400 system to the company’s websites.

These tests also provided insight into and the ability to resolve issues with web traffic load handling and simplified the process for pinpointing and overcoming issues like bottlenecks.

Synergy Codeworks redesigned the automated functional test suite using Selenium (Java), and expanded the testing so it could be used across multiple browsers. This greatly reduced hands-on testing times (particularly for regression testing), and allowed for faster response times for developers when bugs were uncovered.
